What a day! My kids had been preparing to run a Lemonade/Candy stand to help raise money for Team Simon! Simon McCune is our wonderful neighbor who is Trey's friend. He has Cystic Fibrosis, and this year St. George is hosting its first Great Strides Walk to raise money for CF Research. The kids left for school that morning excited and determined to tell everyone on the bus to come to their stand after school. I got a call later that morning from a friend, Rachael DeMille, saying she had a cotton candy machine and a SnoCone machine and they would be happy to bring them and run them to contribute to the sale! Awesome! Then.....just as I was about to leave to complete the final prep for that afternoon, I received a call from Gavin's school. The bad news....he was hurt, maybe even a broken arm! I hustled over to get him and take him to the Doc's. Sure enough, he had buckle fracture in his left wrist (I told him it must be genetic - I also broke my left wrist in 6th Grade!). He was a good sport - he didn't even cry (although I could see him shaking and gritting his teeth because it hurt so much).
Somehow, everything worked out and things came together great for the sale. We had a steady flow of kids for well over two hours. I'm sure all the neighbor kids were up late that night because of all the sugar they inhaled! Thanks to Brook and Allison for taking picture - my battery was dead!
Simon enjoying the festivities!
The Cotton Candy and SnoCones were a huge hit - thanks so much Rachael, Gabe and Dillon!
Our darling neighborhood kids getting their share of the sugar! Our kids had so much fun - when they woke up the next morning, they asked if we could do it again!
